A homeless charity will hold a vigil outside the Dáil this evening to remember a man found dead in a tent in the city centre.

Thomas Boyd Dowling was discovered at Loftus Lane off Bolton Street in the early hours of Monday morning.

"A Lending Hand" is urging people to gather with candles outside the gates of the Dáil.

In a post on facebook, the group paid tribute to the dad-of-six;

"We will be holding a candle light vigil outside the gates of the Dail on Thursday at 7.30pm to remember Thomas as the human he was and to remind our peers to start looking after and providing adequate hostel accommodation so no other person has to die alone in a tent on the street."

It went on to say Thomas was not just "a homeless person" but a "person with a face and a family who loved him", a "decent person that fell on hard times."
