It's Bike Week and cyclists are being reminded to be aware of blind spots.

Lorry drivers have a limited field of vision, leaving vulnerable road users invisible.

Larger trucks now have to be fitted with ‘cyclops mirrors’ to help eliminate the problem, but there are still blind spots immediately in front of, behind and to the left of the truck.

Head of the Road Safety Authority, Moyagh Murdock, said there are ways of reducing the risk:

"We can also improve the infrastructure to help segregate the two road users. The more cycle-lanes with physical barriers, the safer our roads are."
