A private security firm is to man the entrances to Temple Bar on St Patrick's Day.

The move is to limit the number of revellers pouring into the area.

Locals and tourists may find themselves unable to access Temple Bar on St. Patricks Day under crowd control plans.

A private security firm is due to be hired by the City Council to patrol all access points at a cost of around €10,000.

Once the area becomes too full it wil be closed off until people leave.

The plan is aimed at avoiding saturation which has caused problems in the past.

If the new measures are effective they could be used for other large scale events.

CCTV will also be used to monitor the area.
