The final details of the governments new medium-term Covid-19 plan will be discussed later.

The Cabinet sub-committee on Covid-19 will finalise details of the strategy, that will include five tiers of restrictions. The highest measure will be similar to the lockdown earlier this year.

The plan is due to be published tomorrow.

It's expected that Dublin will be placed under stricter rules than the rest of the country due to the recent rise in Covid-19 cases.

255 new infections were confirmed yesterday, 156 of those in the capital.

Covid-19 lead with the Irish College of General Practitioners, Dr. Nuala O'Connor, says the new plan will be important;

"We're not sure exactly the way the world is going to look in six months time but this is an attempt to give people a more structured way that they can see the steps and the measures that might need to be taken, depending on the course and trajectory of the virus."

Pubs

The Licensed Vintners Association says it's trust in the government would be 'shattered' if all pubs in Dublin aren't allowed re-open next week.

It was decided last Tuesday that publicans would be allowed welcome customers back from September 21st.

However the LVA fears that pubs in the capital could be excluded due to the recent surge in Covid-19 cases.
