Two men hoping to challenge the yes result in the marriage referendum have been turned away by the High Court.

Among their issues, they claimed there were too many yes posters, many of them backed by government parties.

Co Clare electrician Gerry Walshe and Maurice Lyons, a gardener from Co Kilkenny, brought separate cases against the State and Referendum Commission.

Mr Walshe argued the government parties were not impartial and he raised concerns about the secrecy of the ballot because of CCTV at polling stations.

Mr Lyons argued that the majority of the eligible electorate did not vote in favour of the referendum.

President Nicholas Kearns found they had failed to raise any significant point.
