Court Hears Man On Trial For Murder Told Gardai 'I'm Innocent'

The Central Criminal Court has heard a man on trial for murdering his friend told gardai ‘I’m innocent’.

Sebastian Barczuk denies murdering Michal Kurek in North Dublin three years ago.

The body of homeless man Michal Kurek was found lying face down in a country laneway in Ballyboughal in North Dublin in August 2017.

The 33 year old had been stabbed 62 times.

His friend Sebastian Barchuck of Briarwood Lawn, Mulhuddart is on trial for his murder which he denies and today the jury has been hearing an interview he had with gardai in April 2018.

The 32 year old told gardai ‘I didn’t kill him’ when he was asked about the night in question and said he didn’t know why his phone and car had been had been traced to Ballyboughal that night.

He was also asked why he got rid of a car that he had just bought the day before the stabbing and he replied ‘Because I didn’t need it’

He told gardai ‘I’m innocent’ when they asked if there was anything he wanted to tell them.
