Gardaí have described the Australian woman found outside the GPO last month as “very vulnerable”.

Following the release of her photograph yesterday, detectives were able to identify her and make contact with her family.

Originally thought to be a European teenager, it’s since emerged the so-called GPO Girl is in fact a 25-year-old Australian woman.

A man responded to the release of her photograph yesterday and that led to contact being made with her family and authorities in Australia.

Detective Garda Sean Gallagher told the High Court this afternoon that she’d been living in Ireland for around three weeks before she was taken into HSE care after was found wandering in a distressed state along O’Connell Street on October 10th.

He said she’d been staying with a relation up until they found her and described her as a very vulnerable individual”.

The court heard from a medical expert who said he suspected she has been subjected to a “difficult past”.

The woman is due to be assessed by an adult psychiatrist this afternoon before a decision is made on her care order in the morning.
