Dublin city councillors have voted to keep Capel Steet car-free.

A new road surface, benches and pedestrian crossings have been added in the area in recent weeks after the northside stretch was pedestrianised in May.

While workshops are being planned with businesses, residents and councillors for later this month to discuss the longer-term plan to enhance Capel Street.

Karl Mitchell, DCC's Director of Services, told yesterday's Central Area Committee meeting that they're continuing to speak to retailers and other businesses;

"A lot of it now is about ironing out kinks that are in the system rather than, we still have people who are dead set against it but generally the feedback we're getting is how do we fix things."
