Gardaí say the man killed in a pipe bomb explosion at a homeless hostel in the north inner city has not yet been formally identified.

More than 70 people were living at the facility when the blast happened last month.

Gardaí say they're continuing to actively investigate this explosion at Depaul's homeless hostel on Little Britain Street on January 18th.

The pipe bomb went off shortly after 3pm in the afternoon, killing a man in his 30s.

The victim, who is from eastern Europe, has not yet been formally identified. Gardaí say inquiries are ongoing with the assistance of Interpol.

The blast was confined to one room and no one else was injured, while the army bomb squad later carried out a controlled explosion.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the incident room at the Bridewell Garda Stationon 01 6668200 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

The hostel remains closed, with more than 70 residents being accommodated elsewhere.
