The sale and redevelopment of the 1960 Phibsboro shopping centre is in doubt.

It's after city councillors decided not to approve a masterplan for the area.

The Phibsboro local area plan would have overseen the development of the suburb for the next 6 years by which time it will have a Luas and 20 thousand students on the DIT camus at Grangegorman.

It included proposals for a new shopping centre, schools and 750 homes.

However the sticking point is a tower up to 37 metres tall at the shopping centre side.

Councillors have refused to accept it and want the plan amended and reissued.

The shopping centre was due to go on sale shortly but this move is likely to make it less attractive to buyers.
