A Dublin Councillor is calling for more affordable housing to be made available throughout the county.
Michael O'Brien, of the Anti Austerity Alliance, will oppose the council's decision to sell two thirds of the renovated Priory Hall apartments on the open market.
At the end of the month, fifty-one of the units will be put up for sale, while only nine will be put aside for social housing.
It is O'Brien's belief that council-owned apartments should primarily be used for social housing given the scale of the housing crisis in Dublin.
At tonight's council meeting, he will recommend that all sixty units be made available for social and affordable housing.
O'Brien says the Priory Hall case is not unique to that area alone, with a group campaigning for social and affordable housing in Ringsend, to hold a public demonstration outside tonight's monthly council meeting.
"We're just not making the inroads that need to be made to reverse this crisis. The homelessness situation, overcrowding ,and those who aren't eligible to go on the housing list because the criteria are so strict. They can't afford to buy houses on the open market either"
