Councillors are up in arms over plans to remove two statues away from College Green.

The sculptures of Henry Grattan and Thomas Davis are earmarked to be moved to another city location as part of plans to turn it into a pedestrian zone.

Councillors say a new public plaza at College Green would be a jewel in the crown of the city, but not at the cost of losing the statues of Thomas Davis and Henry.  They were only made aware of the situation at a meeting last month.

The first part of planning permission for the new plaza will be lodged later this month.
