A Coolock man has begun his appeal against a nine year jail sentence for the possession of 2.5 million euro worth of cannabis.
In March this year, 42 year old Gary Byrne from Belcamp Gardens was sentenced to nine years behind bars for the possession of 2.5 million euro worth of cannabis at locations in Ballycoolin and Blanchardstown in June 2013.
At his appeal hearing this morning, the court heard he was just a runner in the operation and not the owner of the drugs.
A detective garda told the court the accused was in a bay way at the time of the offence.
A decision on the appeal will be handed down this afternoon.
The prosecution has previously dropped a charge against the accused for the possession of 2 and half million euro worth of ecstasy after a legal loophole made certain drugs legal for a short time.
