A controversial beagle puppy farm has been given the go ahead in Yorkshire.

This farm will be used for animal experimentation and medical research.

This will be the second facility like this in England.

Each year, more than 3,000 dogs are specifically bred for use in UK laboratories.

The National Anti-Vivisection Society has called this approval a betrayal of the animals, the public and science.

According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, "Breeding dogs for experiments supports a shameful trade and is something that belongs in the past, when we didn't know that we had other options."

Sky News discovered that the beagles sell for £1,600 each, which makes the UK market for animal experimentation worth more than £5 million.
