An increase in consumer confidence is being reflected in public spending.

That's according to new research, carried out by the Marketing Institute of Ireland and Michael Smurfit business school.

It shows consumer confidence now stands at 8-point-4, a rise of over 19 points compared to the same period last year.

The report shows a major turnaround in new car sales this year, greater activity in the property sector along with increased retail sales.

Mary Lambkin, is a Professor of Marketing at UCD Smurfit School, and one of the authors of the report.
