Concert promoters are being told they must be able to prove a reasonable amount of tickets are available at the lowest advertised price.

MCD has been slapped on the wrist by the advertising watchdog, after a customer complained all the cheapest tickets for a show at 3Arena had sold out.

The company argued prices always vary depending on the position of the seat, and that many other promoters also advertise tickets as starting 'from' the lowest price.

The ad stated that tickets would be sold "from €51", but when the customer tried to buy one, only higher price tickets were available.

She told the Advertising Standards Authority she considered the ad to be misleading.

MCD said the ad clearly stated this was a ‘from’ price and that there had been a limited amount of these tickets.

The ASAI asked MCD to confirm how many tickets were available at €51, but it didn't provide that information.

MCD denied its ad was designed in "a conscious effort to mislead the public into purchasing tickets".

The ASAI agreed with complaint, and has warned all concert promoters they should be able to prove a "reasonable" number of tickets are available at the lowest advertised price.
