It could be August before we find out if plans to create a pedestrian plaza at College Green will go ahead.

An Bord Pleanala has admitted a report on the project, which would normally take a month to complete, may take three months.

This latest delay follows on from oral hearings, which took longer than planned because so many groups wanted to have an input.

It means that, if the plaza does get the green light, it likely won’t be completed until late-2020 at the earliest.

That will be three years since the Luas Cross City Line opened, and began running in front of Trinity.

Graeme McQueen from Dublin Chamber said "it's going to take 18 months for the plaza to be built, so that is frustrating for Dubliners and frustrating for businesses", he said.

He said that "it leaves that area effectively in limbo for years", but added that "it's very important we get College Green right".
