Drivers in the Bawnogue area of Clondalkin are being urged to be extra vigilant following reports of two attempted carjackings this week.

At lunchtime yesterday, a woman was stopped at a set of traffic lights in Bawnogue when a man tried to get into the passenger side of her car.

The door was locked and she managed to drive away before he came around to her side. The same thing happened to another woman on Monday morning.

The man is described as short, with red hair and when spotted yesterday, he was dressed all in black and had a bag on his back.

A spate of carjackings last year led Gardai to issue a public warning, especially to vulnerable taxi drivers. The best advice is to lock your doors as soon as you get in.

Opportunistic thieves are also targeting handbags, mobile phones and other items that may be left on the passenger seat and can be easily snatched through an open window when a car is stopped in traffic so always roll up your windows and keep expensive items in the boot.
