It's being claimed that the former owners of Clerys turned down a 20 million euro offer for the department store that would have seen it remain open.
Ex Clerys chairman Eoin McGettigan headed up the bid for the iconic store, but he's told The Sunday Business Post that it was rejected by the former owners, Gordon Brothers.
Clerys was sold to Natrium group for a reported 29 million euro.
The new owners have controversially closed the store with the loss of hundreds of jobs.
The Post also reports that the new owners are considering a hotel at the site, with ground floor retail units.
