Privacy advocates and the Irish Council for Civil Liberties are questioning whether Gardaí violating the rights of Church Street residents who face restrictions during the papal visit.
They're on the route Pope Francis will take on his way to visit the Capuchin Day Centre for the homeless in Smithfield.
A flyer through their doors asks they provide the Gardai with the names of people staying at the address this Saturday, with a maximum of four people allowed, and they will also have to carry photo ID in order to return to their homes if they leave.
A spokesperson for the force says there'll be limited space on Church Street Street "and in order to manage and ensure the safety of all concerned, access to this specific location will be curtailed... Flyers were issued to establish how many residents / family members will be in the area on Saturday."
Elizabeth Farries from The Irish Council for Civil Liberties says that, under law, the gathering information like this must be lawful, necessary and proportionate.
"Compelling people to produce their personal data in order to gain access to their own homes is a highly intrusive act which triggers privacy rights under European and international human rights laws."
