42 per cent of litter on our streets is dropped by pedestrians.
A report by the National Litter Pollution Monitoring System has found people out walking, put rubbish on the ground almost twice as often as motorists.
It's also found cigarette butts make up more than half of all litter on the ground.
Smokers' rights group, Forest Ireland says there aren't enough public ash trays.
