A Carlow mum has become the first person to be given a heart and lung transplant in Ireland.
31-year-old Adrianne Roberts is back home for Christmas with her husband and 4-year-old daughter after the marathon 18-hour operation.
Doctors at Dublin's Mater Hospital used organs from an Irish donor to perform the procedure.
The first heart transplant in this country was carried out in 1985, with the first lung transplant 20 years later - but until now most patients were sent to the UK for the double operation.
