Dublin City Council is being asked to help block a 'Love Ulster' march from taking place in the city.

The Loyalist parade is planned for later this month but a motion will be put to Councilors tonight which says the march poses a severe threat to safety and should be called off.

The route would take hundreds of marchers down O'Connell Street towards Leinster House on Kildare Street.

A similar march in 2006 saw over a dozen people taken to hospital and 41 people arrested after an outbreak of violence.

The outcome of this evening's vote is not legally binding as Dublin City Council has no authority over the event.

However Councillor Jim O'Callaghan, who's tabling the motion, thinks it's a symbolic gesture..
