Only 15 Newly Built Dublin Developments Under €300K

Only people on salaries of €80,000 to €100,000 or more will be able to afford a home in the city centre. That's according to senior Department of Environment planner Niall Cussen, quoted in The Irish Times today.

Figures show that out of 56 new housing developments in Dublin, just 15 have properties for less than €300,000, and there are no newly built apartments for sale.

Construction was hoped to be increased with the introduction of the new mandatory standards last month, requiring apartment sizes to be made smaller, but fell by 12%.

A lack of supply is pushing up prices.

Apartments are going for €475,00 to €570,000 in the Clontarf area, but on the south of the city centre prices have reached a staggering €750,000. 

The cheapest houses available closest to the city centre are in Finglas costing €255,000.

Meanwhile the Green Party is slamming the government for failing to solve Dublin's housing crisis.

Leader Eamonn Ryan says more social housing should be built on the 300 derelict sites in the city centre, to prevent people from having to travel into work or schools:
