SIPTU's calling for compulsory training for cash in transit workers in a bid to prevent and help them deal with tiger kidnappings.

The call follows an incident in Dublin last week in which a family of three went through a 13 hour long ordeal.

A cash in transit worker was forced to hand over 200,000 euro to those behind the attack.

While his partner and daughter were held captive tied up in a van which was driven around for several hours.

SIPTU's Jack O'Connor says more can be done to help workers prepare for situations like these:

"The financial institutions and employers in the security industry are committing enormous resources to the protection of money but the people who who work for them and their families should not be treated as expendable"
