Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has died at the age of 96.

Elizabeth sat on the British throne for 70 years having succeeded her father King George VI in 1952 aged just 25. Queen Elizabeth was the longest-serving British Monarch.

Her reign spanned 15 British Prime Ministers and seven Popes, and 13 different Taoisigh in Ireland.

On 6th February 2022, Queen Elizabeth II became the first British monarch in history to achieve Platinum Jubilee - 70 years of reign and service which was celebrated in the UK over the summer

She visited Ireland in May 2011, the first time a ruling monarch had set foot in the Republic.

Former President Mary McAleese said her visit here was a moment of history and healing.

"What she did in those four days I think played a role in - what I would call - a time of really quite wonderful healing of history".
