This year’s Bray Summerfest has effectively been cancelled.
The July long festival – which was worth 8 million euro to the local economy – has been downsized to a seafront funfair and the Bray air display.
It's been changed this year after a decision by local councillors to only allow the festival to use the seafront for two weeks from 2016.
That meant money generated by the funfair would be cut and events like the Air Show, which brings 80 thousand people to the town every year, were at risk.
Festival chair Mick Glynn says they were left with a big problem.
"The councillors decided two weeks ago that they wanted to cut the number of days on the seafront from 24 to 15 days in 2016. Ultimately, it left us in a situation where we were not guaranteed funding to 2016. So the committee made a decision, they looked at it numerous different ways and they thought the best way was to cut events in 2015 to ensure the financial viability of the air display in 2016".
Locals were disappointed with the news with one lady saying "They're basically going to turn this place into a ghost town, there's only coffee shops, there's not even a cinema here anymore. There's nobody coming out, there's no reason to come to Bray anymore".
Of the two events that are left, the funfair runs from July 12th until the August Bank Holiday weekend while the air show takes place on July 19th.
