The Lord Mayor has hit out at a violent brawl before Friday's match between Rovers and Bohs, in which it appears English soccer hooligans traveled over for.
Gardai were caught off guard by the riot which happened at Rathdown Road in Grangegorman, close to Bohs' home ground in Dalymount but 20km away from where the game was taking place at Tallaght Stadium.
It happened at around 6.30pm but officers say it broke up once they were called to the scene.
Despite reports there were multiple injuries, detectives say no complaints were reported to them.
Lord Mayor Níal Ring has hit out at the violence which terrified local residents.
"For Bohs and Rovers fixtures, there's always heightened garda visibility but this sinister turn of events where it was pre-planned, with hooligans and casual ultras traveling over from the UK... you wonder what are these young kids getting up to? I mean, 200 yards away yesterday we had 82,000 people in Croke Park and not a bit of trouble."
