Books of condolence for the families and friends of the ten people killed in a fire at Carrickmines yesterday will open today.

They will be located at a number of sites around the south side.

Tragedy struck in South Dublin yesterday when five children and five adults - all members of two families - perished in a blaze at a halting site on the Glenamuck Road.

Among the dead were two babies - aged just five and six months' old.

The cause of the fire is not yet known - but Gardaí are treating it as a tragic accident.

Two adults are being treated in hospital in Dublin for smoke inhalation.

It's understood the fire broke out in a prefab shortly after 4:30 yesterday morning, and it then quickly spread to other units.

Fr Derek Farrell, parish priest for the travelling community, said local people are rallying around those bereaved in their time of "unbelievable loss":

Books of Condolece are in place in Leopardstown Shopping Centre, Centra Stepaside, The Market Belarmine and at Customer Services in Dundrum Shopping Centre.
