A Ballyfermot man has been jailed for three years after being caught with shotgun ammunition and almost €90,000 worth of cannabis.

Darren Raymond’s home at Loch Conn Terrace was raided following a Garda surveillance operation.

Darren Raymond, a 45-year-old father of one, was suspected of being involved in drug dealing after Gardai received a tip off and officers moved in on his Ballyfermot home in August 2014. They found €88k worth of cannabis was found in a bedroom and some more drugs were found in his van.

Mr. Raymond admitted storing and breaking up the drugs. He said he was being paid €700 a week to do it and claimed he’d no choice because he owed people money. The court heard he refused to name the people he was working for.

Gardai also seized 25 shotgun cartridges from his garden shed, but he insisted he didn’t know they were put there.

Judge Martin Nolan accepted he was a “good and kind family man” but said he should have known better before sentencing him to three years in jail.
