A Tallaght woman charged with assisting in the suicide of a MS sufferer two years ago is due to enter a plea today.

Gail O'Rorke, from Kilclare Gardens, is the first person to be prosecuted for such an offence.

MS sufferer Bernadette Forde was found dead in her apartment at Morehampton Mews on June 6th 2011.

Just a few weeks before Christmas last year, 42-year-old Gail O'Rorke was arrested and brought before the courts in connection with her death.

She was charged under a piece of legislation that makes it illegal to help somebody take their own life.

It's believed she's the first person in the state to be prosecuted for this offence, which on conviction can carry a sentence of up to 14 years.

She's due in court today where she will be asked whether she wants to plead guilty to helping Bernadette take her own life or seek a date for trial.
