A child has died in hospital in Dublin, bringing the number of people killed in a tragic fire in Carrickmines overnight to ten .
The fire broke out at a halting site in Carrickmines in South Dublin in the early hours of this morning.
Emergency services arrived at the scene on Glenamuck road at a around 4:30am, following a call from a member of the public.
Two of the four housing units on the site were badly damaged in the fire.
Initial investigations suggest that the blaze broke out in one and then spread to another.
Chief Superintendent Dairmuid O'Sullivan from Dun Laoghaire Garda station says the the youngest of the victims was aged six months.
A number of people remain in Tallaght and St Vincent's hospitals this afternoon, where they are being treated for smoke inhalation.
Political, church and community leaders have voiced their shock at the Carrickmines tragedy.
President Michael D Higgins expressed his condolences to the families and friends of those affected - describing it as "a most dreadful tragedy."
While The Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin said the news was "heartbreaking for all in the Traveller and wider local community".
And Tánaiste Joan Burton said she was "deeply saddened to learn of the tragedy."
