Residents of an apartment complex in the Docklands face a 4 million euro bill to fix fire hazards.

More than 600 residents of Longboat quay apartments face evacuation from their homes if they cannot come up with the money.

Those living in the complex on Sir John Roberson's Quay were told they need to pay up to 18 thosuand euro each in order to have the defects repaired.

Dublin Fire Brigade has threatened to have the building closed if the fire trap can't be fixed.

The major problem is a lack of fire proofing in common areas who could cause a blaze to spread quickly.

The complex was built by developer Bernard McNamara who's company has since gone bust.
