There have been 1,782 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Ireland today.

It's the highest number of daily cases reported since January.

It brings the five-day moving average of new cases to 1,391.

Officials were told of today's figure at a meeting of the Cabinet subcommittee on COVID-19 earlier.

Donegal, Louth and Galway are said to be showing "very high incidence rates" of the virus.

Latest HSE figures show there are 189 patients with COVID-19 in Irish hospitals, a slight drop compared to 193 yesterday.

30 of those patients are in intensive care, up from 28 yesterday.

Around 89% of adults have now received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

HSE CEO Paul Reid earlier said it’s now looking like they’ll have completed vaccination of the adult population by the end of August or early September.

He said that’s “probably about four weeks ahead of where we thought we would be”.
