A fourth chapter of The Matrix has officially been confirmed. After years of speculation, its been announced that Keanu Reeves will return as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss will reprise her role as Trinity.

Lana Wachowski will be back in the director's seat.

2019 marks the 20th anniversary of the original Matrix. The science fiction franchise was created by Wachowski and her sister Lilly.

In a statement, Lana said: “Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now.

“I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”

Wachowski has written the script with Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell.

A release date has yet to be announced.

The Matrix was first released in 1999 and grossed over $460 million worldwide and won four Academy Awards.

The film's success led to two sequels: The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. #
