The sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, will bring viewers back to a time before Harry Potter himself was ever born.

With the screenplay by JK Rowling, which was completed last year, as confirmed by director David Yates when speaking to Entertainment Weekly.

He added, "The second movie introduces new characters as she builds this part of the Harry Potter universe further. It’s a very interesting development from where we start out. The work is pouring out of her"

Yates, who directed the four latest Harry Potter movies as well as the first Fantastic Beasts movie, will direct the upcoming film.

We now know the name and release date for the film:

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will follow a young Albus Dumbledore, who enlists Newt to stop Grindelwald from raising pure-blood wizards to rule over all non-magical beings.

The second film in the franchise will be set just a year later than the first, in 1927, and seems to take place in England and Paris, or so we can tell from the trailer.

The above trailer, which came out in March, shows the character at Harry Potter's future school, Hogwarts. It also reveals that Newt is working with Dumbledore, and that they must head to Paris for reasons unknown.

We should expect to meet even more new characters as the story continues in the sequel.

A big character set to appear in the film is Newt’s brother and we will be introduced to a young Albus Dumbledore, who will be played by Jude Law.

Johnny Depp will also make a return to the second film in the series.

Although he only briefly appeared at the end of the first film, he'll have a bigger role in the second instalment.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, will be in Irish cinemas on the 16th November 2018.
