Report by Barry Whyte.

Families, including young children, are among those facing eviction in Kilmainham.

It comes after the owner of Tathony House, a 35-apartment complex in the Dublin 8 area, has put the residence up for sale.

Over 100 residents are now facing eviction when it comes into effect next June.

One of those is James O'Toole, who's lived in the apartment complex with his wife since 2009.

He says there are no properties available to rent and many of the tenants fear being made homeless.

"I'm looking online, I'm just thinking it's going to be a nightmare.. whether we leave tomorrow or whether we leave on June the 2nd."

"The rental market is just terrifying at the moment," he added.

People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett is calling on Dublin City Council to buy Tathony House.

"There's a lot of talk about landlords exiting markets and selling up," Barrett said.

"The way to deal with that is for the council to step in and buy this property and ensure that tenants don't face the prospects of homelessness."

The residents facing eviction will protest outside Dublin City Council later this week.
