A murder investigation is underway after a shooting on the northside of Dublin yesterday evening, which has left a man dead.

The victim, who was in his twenties, was hit a number of times on Clonshaugh Avenue at around 5.15pm.

He was taken to Beaumont hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The man was known to Gardaí and its believed the shooting is connected to a local feud in the Coolock area.

The Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan has condemned the gun attack and is appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

Local Labour Senator Aodhán O'Riordáin says Minister Charlie Flanagan needs to take swift action;

"The government have acted before in the north inner city,  they need to act now and I can't keep making this call every time somebody gets shot or somebody gets murdered."

A forensic exam of the scene is continuing and arrangements are being made for a post-mortem examination later today.

An incident room has been set up at Coolock Garda Station. Officers are appealing to witnesses to come forward.

They are particularly interested in anyone with dashcam footage from 4pm onwards.
