Residents in Blanchardstown are due to hand a letter to Fingal County Council this afternoon.

They're lobbying to get half of a proposed 16-storey apartment block dedicated to social and affordable housing.

The planned development by Goldman Sachs would be situated in the white car park of Blanchardstown Shopping Centre if it goes ahead.

They claim the sale of Blanchardstown Centre days after getting permission for the development "was always about a quick buck".

Whitestown residents say they're disappointed with the Council for not informing them about the application.

Local resident Natasha Hanna, says the local community is under-resourced to deal with the development:

"It's going to majorly have a big impact on the local community"

"We understand that there is a housing crisis, but this is not going to help the housing crisis at all".

She says it's also a "safety issue" as their local fire station is dealing with an area comparable to the population of Limerick City.

Locals residents say the housing development should not be left in the hands of vulture funds.

They will hand their letter to councillors and council management at a meeting in Swords from 4:40pm today.
