The 2020 League of Ireland season has been extended after recent matches were postponed as a result of COVID-19 outbreaks at league clubs.

Premier Division fixtures featuring St Patrick's Athletic and First Division games involving Galway United have had to be delayed due to cases of Covid-19 in both squads.

The National League Executive Committee have now ratified the decision to push back the full final round of games in both divisions "for competition integrity purposes, with all fixtures scheduled for the same time and date".

The Premier Division season will now conclude on Sunday, November 8 whilst the First Division season will now finish on Tuesday, October 27.

There is still much to play for in both divisions as Shamrock Rovers look to seal their first title in nine years, Cork City try to avoid the drop and several teams still have a real chance at promotion from the First Division.

It was also announced that the promotion/relegation play-off series has been rescheduled.

The First Division play-off semi-finals are now set to take place on Saturday, October 31st, the First Division play-off final will be on Friday, November 6th and the promotion/relegation play-off final will go ahead on Saturday, November 14th.

The dates for the FAI Cup quarter-finals have also been rescheduled. The four fixtures will be in October & November due to Dundalk's progression in the UEFA Europa League, the November international window and the promotion/relegation play-offs, with kick-off times still to be confirmed.

FAI Cup Quarter-Finals

Sligo Rovers v Derry City - Friday, October 30th
Athlone Town v Shelbourne - Saturday, October 31st
Finn Harps v Shamrock Rovers - Sunday, November 1st
Bohemians v Dundalk - Saturday, November 14th
