Four deer were shot dead after impaling themselves on the railings in the Phoenix Park last year.

13 collisions between deer and vehicles were also recorded.

Park rangers believe the four deer became impaled on the fences while fleeing from dogs.

As a result the rangers are appealing for owners to keep their pets on a lead.

According to a report released under freedom of information laws to The Times Ireland Edition the park is home to around 550 deer.

134 deer have died since the start of last year.

That includes 94 that were culled and 29 that were put down after being found injured.
