Five percent (349) of the country's pubs have closed their doors since the beginning of the pandemic.

That's according to joint analysis from the pub trade's representative bodies.

The Vintners Federation of Ireland says it highlights how pubs bore the brunt of Covid restrictions.

Chief Executive Padraig Cribben says it's worrying how widely spread the losses are:

"The worst affected counties are, in terms of number, is Cork [which has lost 37 outlets]."

Dublin's lost 33, as has Donegal.

Kerry's the fourth-worst affected county having lost 22 pubs since last March.

Mr. Cribben continues:

"I think what is important is that the spread of reductions is across 25 of the 26 counties."

He says the only increase is "a very minor increase" in County Meath.

The analysis is based on figures from the Revenue Commission.
