The Society of Recorder Players Ireland says new members are welcome to join as it celebrates 50 years next month.

Its anniversary was truly in October, but the group postponed their celebrations because of Covid restrictions.

The group has organised an original composition, a recorder orchestra and visits from a sister organisation in the UK to mark the event.

Musical Director Pamela Flanagan says they meet in Booterstown in Dublin (across from the train station) and try to cater to everyone's abilities:

"We start at 2:30, we play through to about 4:15 when we break for tea and biscuits."

"Then we resume again at about 4:30 and we finish up usually around 5:30."

"We have quite a large variety of music, we try to satisfy all levels of playing and all interests of music."

"So it really ranges from the 16th century to the present day!"

Places Are Limited

Pamela says places are limited because the group is continuing with their Covid methods like the social distancing for the moment.

"Places are limited, so they'd need to contact either myself, or the secretary or the chairman to let us know they're interested in coming."

"To book a place," she says.

"We're using social distancing in terms of where the seats are placed in the hall."

"There's also other measures like hand sanitiser and giving the music out in advance and so forth."

But if they let us know in advance, yes they'd be most welcome!"

The meeting in February is on the 19th and 20th of February.
