A midnight curfew for restaurants, bars and nightclubs comes into force later to try to curb the spike in Covid-19 cases.

However several clubs say they will continue to operate and just open earlier.

Ireland's most famous late night venue, Copper Face Jacks on Dublin's Harcourt Street says it will operate from 6pm to midnight seven nights a week.

While another Dublin nightclub, Tramline, will open at 7pm.

Owner Ian Redmond says the curfew makes no sense; "We're confused as to what difference timings make on what time someone comes to a nightclub at, why closing at twelve is any different to closing at three."

He says they would have preferred if they were told nightclubs were being closed all together.
