Premier League strugglers Watford have sacked their manager, Claudio Ranieri.

The Italian was only appointed in October, signing a two-year deal. However, Friday night's 3-0 defeat at home to Norwich City saw Watford drop into the relegation zone.

The process of appointing a successor is now underway.

During 14 games in charge at Vicarage Road, Ranieri has overseen just the two victories. Watford's 4-1 win at home to Manchester United in November helped cost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his job at Old Trafford.

But Friday's loss has proved the final straw for Watford's owners, who make Henry VIII appear a candidate for Faithful Husband Of The Year.

Since Malky Mackay's two-year term ended in 2011, Watford have made fifteen different managerial appointments - two of those were Quique Sanchez Flores.

Ranieri's successor will be their third manager this season, with the 69-year old having replaced Xisco Munoz in the autumn.

Writing on Instagram at the weekend, Hornets midfielder Moussa Sissoko said, "Difficult to digest the defeat of Friday evening, the truth of today is not that of tomorrow.

"Currently, we are in the relegation zone but I can assure you that the whole team and everyone at the club will do their best to get out of this situation.

"I imagine that must be hard to believe because we have not been able to win and perform as well for several weeks, but we work every day to try to improve, to win the matches and to make all our supporters proud. We are going to need you until the last game of the season. Come on Hornets!"
