It looks like Niall Horan could be following in the footsteps of his former band mate Liam Payne, by snubbing Simon Cowell to sign a solo record deal with a different label.

Daily Star Sunday are reporting that he has signed with Universal in a massive deal, rather than sticking with his One Direction manager Simon Cowell and Syco.

Simon has made comment in the past saying he felt Niall would always be loyal to Syco records if he was ever to go solo, so we're guessing he's not too chuffed with this decision.

Niall previously spoke of his passion for writing saying, "Writing is always something I've enjoyed. I've written with a few of the lads I've made relationships with down the years so I've been able to call up someone, 'Do you wanna write? Yeah, cool, let's go in the studio and write.'"

A source has said, "Universal said they would pay Niall whatever it took. They heard his solo music and they all think it's got good potential. They really had to throw the dollars at him but they think it's worth it."

There has been no confirmation yet from either Niall, Universal or Syco.

It was announced back in July that Liam Payne has also snubbed Simon and Syco, signing a deal with Capitol Records UK.
