The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have confirmed that next year's Africa Cup of Nations has been postponed until 2022.

The tournament was due to take place in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6 of next year.

CAF have ruled that there will not be time to play the remaining qualifiers between now and the tournament's start date.

Only two rounds of group matches from a possible six across the twelve groups have been possible so far.

It's the second time the 2021 AFCON has been pushed back.

The finals were originally schedule for June/July of 2020 but were put back to the European winter due to potentially unfavourable weather conditions in West Africa.

News of the postponement will come as a relief to managers in the major European leagues.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp alone faced the prospect of losing Mo Salah (Egypt), Sadio Mane (Senegal) and Naby Keita (Guinea) for a month or more in the 2020-21 season.
