Thirty mobiles and a number of modems and USB keys have been found during a search of Portlaoise Prison.
The Irish Prison Service says the raid is taking place at the E block which houses subversives including dissident republicans.
It started at 7am this morning and is a planned intelligence led search carried out by the Operational Support Group and prison staff.
