An Irish woman has been described as "highly traumatised" after she was rescued from a house in London.

The 57-year-old is one of three people believed to have been held captive for the past thirty years.

A 69-year-old Malaysian woman, and 30-year-old British woman have also been freed.

A man and a woman, both aged 67, have been arrested by officers investigating slavery.

The Irish woman being held was the one to help free the group, after she made contact with a charity worker she saw on TV.

The 57-year-old had seen a TV documentary on slavery and rang the group mentioned in it.

Freedom Charity spoke with the women and arranged for them to walk out of the house in October.

The women had been held for over thirty years, but had been given some freedom and were able to walk free.

They're now being cared for by a charity based in London.

The Foreign Affairs Minister has told 98FM News that his department is liaising with authorities in Britain to find out more about the Irish woman involved.

Detective Inspector Kevin Hyland from the Metropolitan Police Human Trafficking Unit says he's never seen anything like this.

He told reporters "we have seen some cases where people have been held for up to ten years, but we have never seen anything of this magnitude before."
