Election candidates are being asked to commit to capping mortgage interest rates if they get into Government.
The Fair Mortgage Rates Campaign group says the limit would protect vulnerable homeowners and borrowers.
According to the group's spokesperson, Brendan Burgess, in Ireland we pay mortgage rates of around 4 per cent when the average rate across the Eurozone is 2 per cent.
Mr. Burgess said: "We want to highlight that issue, we want [the government] to make sure that banks offer existing customers the same rates as new customers."
Mr. Burgess also added that the group wants a ceiling of 4 per cent above the European Central Bank rate on all mortgages and encouraged anyone who can switch lender to do so.
